I need your opinion on this. So I hear there is going to be some guy in Jeff Rense talking about mars images. I think....hey this should be interesting. His name was Ted something or other. He gets on there and starts talking about some company that decided to colorized some of the NASA images. He went on to explain how hard that was to do.

My first thought was why some company would fo to the expense of doing all that and then give it all away free. What would they get out of it? Whatever...at least I can check out some images I am interested. Boy was I in for a big disappointment. First of all the images could not be referenced back to the originals. Then they chopped the big NASA images up and had them all over the place. The worse thing was nothing looked the same and it was very easy to skip right past something.

Then I struggled to identify a picture I posted here already. It just didn't look right so I copied both and set them side by side and the colorized picture hardly resembled the original at all. Here are both pictures side by side. Do you see something strange about them?

yah. weird. i don't see any benefit to the consumer on the colorized, other than that certain patterns don't become apparent under certain conditions. so...maybe as a filter, but i certainly wouldn't colorize all my mars images! and the lack of reference to the original seems shortsighted (at the harmless end) to obfuscating (on the nefarious end). i wouldn't assume that it's intentionaly maleavolent, but more likely (as almost all egalitarian efforts, especially in the world of "freeware") kindly ignorant. but, i'd never rule out the other possibilities all together.
i bet the shadow differences here are due to angle of the sun and time diferences between the images. the two that have the blue (i guess they're the colorized) are from the same vantage point, but probably a couple of hours apart. the second one looks to be with the sun higher in the sky. i can see either a thunderbird or a degraded celtic cross in it. VERY clear in the orange original.
